Description of Corgi Poodle Mix

Corgi Poodle Mix is a cross breed between a Corgi and Poodle and it is commonly referred to as a Corgipoo. Corgi Poodle Mix is a hybrid dog though not recognized as a breed. Among the many Corgi mixes with other breeds, this one is very common.

This dog inherits the intelligence of the Corgi. They are good for people with allergies since they are hypoallergenic. However, the Corgi Poodle Mix is a a challenging house companion since it is difficult to train and socialize. It appears as if they enjoy doing what they are not supposed to do. This particular trait can be eliminated by early and consistent training. The trainer has to be patient while training and reinforce positive attitude.

The Corgipoo have a height of 10-12 inches, a weight of around 20-40 pounds and a life expectancy of 12-14 years. Corgi Poodle Mix is a breed which is commonly used and trained by the military due to their small nature, high energy levels and sighting capabilities.

Appearance of Corgi Poodle Mix

The Corgipoos are small sturdy dogs with medium length legs. The ears are mostly floppy like the poodles. The eyes of the Corgi Poodle Mix have a black color and  they are almond shaped. The head is rounded. The nose is mostly black and the muzzle short.

Coat Color of CorgiPoo

The Corgipoo has a double coat of medium length like the Welsh Corgi. The inner coat is short, soft and waterproof. The outer coat is thick and protective. It sheds lightly and a little grooming is all that is required of it.

The coat comes in a wide variety of colors, red, sable, black, white and brindle. The black coat may have some tan points. In some dogs, a white coloring on the chest surface may be present.

Temperament of Corgi Poodle Mix

Corgipoos tend to be stubborn dogs who don’t like rules. Corgi Poodle Mix dogs also have an inquisitive nature. However, Corgipoos are wonderful with children and older people. They are powerful with lots of stamina, no wonder why they are useful in the military. They excel in obedience training and are good trackers. They have a fearless streak and are not easily angered.

When used as family pets, they demand lots of patience from the owner. With proper training, they are affectionate dogs who are eager to please. They need to be enrolled in a training school early to have them socialize and learn house rules.

Health of Corgi Poodle Mix

There are no specific illnesses that can be associated with the Corgipoos but we need to look at the health issues of the parents. A common problem for Corgis are back and joint problems while the Poodle is known for kidney problems. Now the Corgipoo can inherit any of these problems. Though with crossing, the risk is highly minimized.

The Corgipoo is an active dog and will need daily exercise. However due to their small nature, a short walk will be adequate for them.
